Recipe for the Halloween Cake Pops

Recipe for the Halloween Cake Pops
from Family Circle magazine

makes about 50

Ingredients

  • 1 box cake mix

  • 1 cup canned frosting

  • 1 pound candy melts (such as Wilton)

Directions

1. Prepare cake mix following package directions.

2. Cool, break into crumbs and stir in frosting. Roll into balls (about 50 per batch).

3. Melt 1 pound candy melts (such as Wilton). Dip one end of lollipop sticks in candy and then insert into cake balls (this keeps them from coming loose). Freeze to set.

4. Dip pops in melted candy to coat, decorate as desired, then press sticks in a styrofoam block to dry. (If drawing faces with an edible marker, let candy dry first.)

For the Love of Cake...

Do you ever watch those cake decorating shows? There's a bunch of them on tv these days...reality shows and competitions on the Food Network.

Many, many years ago I used to be a cake decorator. Ok, that is REALLY stretching it when I put it that way. But I did decorate cakes. They were ice cream cakes at Baskin Robbins (yum!!). What I did was SO basic and amateur but it was fun and I still use those basic skills on occasion for cakes for my family.

Well, the other day I was flipping through my new issue of Family Circle magazine and came across a little article about Cake Pops. Have you seen these things? So cute!

(photo from Family Circle)

The little article refers to a blogger who started making these things and I knew I had to check it out. I am loving her blog and I bet you will too! She's actually published a cookbook all about Cake Pops (coming out in September). So far in looking around her blog my favorite Cake Pops are the Ice Cream Cone ones.

So go check out Bakerella's blog right now!!!

Friday Favorites ~ It's Fall Y'all

(Willow House product photo)

I just LOVE fall, don't you? It is my favorite season. I especially love the warm, earthy colors. My home is filled with lots of browns and earthy colors year-round and I get excited when I can add fall leaves and pumpkins to the mix!

I know, I know...it's only August 27th, not fall. But the kids went back to school this week and that somehow plays with my mind that fall is here. Or at least right around the corner.

I'm not the only one anxiously awaiting the time to start pulling out my fall decor. Check it out...

One of my very favorites, Thrift Decor Chick, hosted an impromptu fall decor linky party on her blog the other day. Lots of people linked up with fall crafts, decor, Halloween stuff. You get the idea.

Hope you get lots of fall inspiration. I know I did. Now we just need some cooler weather around here!

Zucchini Bread

1-1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. baking soda

There's No Place Like Home...

My family and I decided (somewhat at the last minute) to head up north to Pennsylvania to visit some of my husband's family. We returned last night and I can definitely say I am happy to be home. Although we enjoyed a nice visit and did some fun things, there is nothing quite like the comforts of home.

I'll be back to posting tomorrow...

Feed Your Brain...

One way that I've been trying to keep my kids' brains active this summer is by keeping quick educational activities close at hand.

We have a Brain Basket with several kinds of flashcards, math bingo games, and more. I keep this near our kitchen table and many nights after dinner we pull out some of these to play with during kitchen clean-up. We started this during the school year last year as a way to help my daughter learn her multiplication tables and my son to work on sight words. We've tried to keep it up a little during the summer months.

Now, with the new school year a few weeks away, I will be on the lookout for new items to put in our Brain Basket to keep up with all of the new skills they will be learning.

Do you have any tips or ideas to keep your kids' brains active and ready for learning?

I've linked up with Back-To-School Tips at Southern Fried Dreams.

Menu Plan Monday

I'm back to menu-planning today. Last week was too crazy to do much planning. So this week I am looking forward to a more normal routine for us.

Monday...Oregano Chicken, rice, peas for family...I'm going out for a Girls Night Out!!!!

Tuesday...burgers on the grill, veggie dippers

Wednesday...grilled chicken, angel hair pasta, grilled veggies
(grilling extra chicken for Thursday's dinner)

Thursday...grilled chicken on salads

Friday...pizza

Saturday...????

Visit Menu Plan Monday to see what everyone is cooking this week!
