Way to Earn Extra Money

I think everyone would like to make a little extra money, right? Well, yesterday afternoon I had the opportunity to do that for myself.

I took part in a focus group with 20/20 Research. To thank me for my time and sharing my thoughts and opinions, I was rewarded with a $100 Visa Gift Card...WOW!!!
20/20 Research conducts focus groups for all sorts of different topics and products. The one I participated in was all about evaporated milk. There were 6 of us sitting around the table with a moderator who kept the conversation going about this often do we buy it, use it, how do we use it, etc. We also had the opportunity to give feedback on various ideas the company is considering for a marketing campaign (they didn't tell me I couldn't mention it so I'll tell you it was Carnation...and some of "their people" were sitting behind a one way window listening to our discussion). It was fun and a rather easy way to make a little extra cash.

20/20 Research has offices in a few cities around the country, including right here in Charlotte. If you are interested in doing something like this occasionally to make a little extra money, please visit their website and sign up to be included in their database (click on "Participate In A Study"). This will then get you on the list for receiving emails when they are looking for participants in focus groups.

Keep in mind that they do market research for a wide variety of things and will look for all sorts of people. Compensation will vary but it is a fun, easy way to put a little something extra in your wallet. I'm looking forward to doing more in the future!

Free for Kids

Lakeshore Learning has a cute free craft for kids this Saturday...Puzzle Me Frame...this is offered from 11am to 3pm tomorrow (see the site for other upcoming free craft days).

Produce Co-Op & Today's Pick Up

For those of you in the Charlotte area I want to share with you info about a produce co-op. Your Neighborhood Produce is a way to save money on fresh produce. There are no commitments or contracts to sign up as a member and participate as much or as little as you like.

Your Neighborhood Produce works with a local wholesaler, who sells produce to area restaurants and schools. They purchase large amounts of fresh produce by the case from this wholesaler, divide it into "produce baskets" and the participants arrive to pick it up (you pay in advance via PayPal each time you wish to participate). The more people that participate, the greater the buying power of Your Neighborhood Produce and the better selection for us! Today's Indian Trail pick up had about 100 baskets!
There are different options to choose from...

Super Easy Vegetable Beef Soup

1 pound ground beef (whichever kind you prefer)
1 (46 oz) bottle of vegetable juice (V* or similar store brand)
1 (16 oz) package of frozen mixed vegetables
1 envelope of onion soup mix

Cook the ground beef and drain.
Combine the vegetable juice, frozen vegetables and soup mix in a stockpot and bring to a boil. Add the cooked beef. Cover and reduce heat. Let it simmer for at least 20 minutes.

*consider adding some pasta too*

Grocery Store Competition is a Good Thing!

Today's front page story of the Charlotte Observer is "New Frugality Shows Up In Local Checkout Lanes". The article focuses on Walmart taking over the top spot for groceries in the market share for the Charlotte area and how other grocers are reacting to it.

After reading it I was reminded that I am so thankful to have such competition among grocery stores in this area! They are all wanting our business and are continually coming up with ways to earn it.

Many cities do not have stores that double coupons everyday...or ever! And did you know that the only Bi-Lo stores that double coupons up to a 99 cent face value are the ones in the Charlotte area? All of their other stores will double to just a 60 cent face value.

I used to think I was spending my grocery dollars the best at Walmart...then I learned how to truly use coupons and found that I spend MUCH LESS at Harris Teeter with their sales combined with double coupons, super double coupons and triple coupons.

Of course, you will still see me at Walmart at times : )

I am working on typing up some deals for Bi-Lo since I can't seem to find a good site to direct you to for that store (you can look at Southern Savers for a list but her deals will not be quite as good as ours...the Charlotte area doubles coupons up to a 99 cent face value...all other Bi-Lo stores only double to 60 keep that in mind if you look at her list, we'll have better deals). You can go here to see a list of all the BOGO items.

Winter Olympics Ideas

Friday nights are Family Fun Nights at our house. Usually we pull out board games, make pizza or snuggle up with a good movie and popcorn.
This Friday night (and many nights for the next couple of weeks) it will be all about The Olympics at our house! I did a little looking around for some ideas to inspire me and came upon this post about activities and crafts for the Winter Olympics.
Hope it inspires some family fun for your home too!

Earn Extra Money with Surveys

Have you ever considered answering surveys to earn a little extra cash? There are many companies out there (again, be sure to research to determine it is legitimate) and they are willing to reward you for your opinions.

Pinecone Research is a reputable company that has been around for a long time. Apparently it is not often that they open up their membership registration but they have right now. So, if this is something that interests you I would recommend checking it out and signing up.

Typically Pinecone Research pays $3 per completed survey (they pay via PayPal...that is easy and free to set up if you do not currently have an account) and sometimes they will mail products for you to try at home.

I'd love to know if you try this...

Get Paid For Your Opinion

Yesterday I was selected to take part in a Focus Group for 20/20 Market Research. This will take place next week and I will receive payment for my opinions. Sounds good to me!

There are many companies out sure you research it and determine it is legitimate.

Here is a link to 20/20 Research's website and a form to submit if you are interested in being selected for future studies. They send you an email, you answer a few preliminary questions and then if you make it to the next round they call you with some additional questions. If selected you will take part in the focus group, sharing your opinions, and receive compensation.

I'll be able to tell you more about it after next week... 80% off, Plus Bonus is offering gift certificates for 80% off again! So, a $25 certificate is just $2. And as a sweet bonus, you'll receive a $15 FTD Reward with every order!

Use the code "HEART" at checkout to receive the discount.

Be sure to read through any and all restrictions for each restaurant. Certificates are available to print and redeem right away. They do not expire for a year though so you have time to use them if you aren't planning a Valentine's dinner date.

Mealtime Monday ~ Triple Chocolate Bundt Cake

In thinking about Valentine's Day later this week I began thinking about chocolate. And that lead me to think of this super chocolatey cake! It is so easy...starts with a boxed cake mix...and is so good. It's been a long time since I've made one of these...I might need to change that!

Triple Chocolate Bundt Cake

1 (18.25 ounce) package devil's food cake mix with pudding
1 (5.9 ounce) package chocolate instant pudding mix
1-1/4 cups water
1/2 cup vegetable oil
4 large eggs
3 cups (18 ounces) semisweet chocolate morsels, divided
1/2 cup whipping cream

*Combine first 5 ingredients in a large mixing bowl; beat at medium speed with an electric mixer for 2 minutes. Stir in 2 cups of chocolate morsels. Pour batter into a greased and floured 12-cup Bundt pan.
*Bake at 350 for 50 to 55 minutes or until cake springs back when touched. (toothpick may not come out clean if trying to test that way) Let cool in pan on a wire rack for 10 minutes. Remove from pan and let cool completely or a wire rack.
*Combine remaining 1 cup chocolate morsels and whipping cream in a heavy saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until morsels melt. Let stand 15 minutes. Drizzle chocolate glaze over the cake. Garnish, if desired, with something such as whipped cream and chocolate morsels or shavings or nuts.
*Let cake stand 1 hour before serving.
