Our Weekend Family Fun

We live about 45 minutes away from the Charlotte Motor Speedway, which is quite a big deal in this area. We are not big Nascar fans but know and appreciate enough about it. The speedway offers tours and we took advantage of it on Saturday. The weather was just beautiful...

The tour takes you to behind-the-scenes areas that you cannot access during a race, such as pit road, the garage area and a chance to take your picture in Victory Circle.

The highlight of the tour was definitely the lap around the track at about 90mph in a 15-passenger van! Pretty amazing to see what it feels like in those turns.

At the end of the tour we spent some time in the stands watching people take part in the Richard Petty Driving Experience (now my husband thinks that's what he wants for his birthday!).
It was a fun, inexpensive way to spend a Saturday afternoon with the family discovering something new (for us) in the city we call home.

Home Depot Garden Club

Last week I mentioned the Home Depot Garden Club. Did you sign up yet? I've had several people tell me they receive great coupons with it. Well, today I had an email with a coupon for Buy 1 Get 1 Free bulbs!

Go here to sign up....

Update: Tropicana BOGO Coupon at Harris Teeter

Yesterday I posted info about signing up for Tropicana Juicy Rewards and how you could print a BOGO coupon. I also mentioned that this week Harris Teeter has this juice on sale for $1.79, which is a great price.

Today I asked about this coupon at the customer service desk before I began my triples shopping and the Assistant Customer Service Manager confirmed what I alluded to in yesterday's post. Harris Teeter will not accept any Internet Printed coupons for free items.

from the HT website...
We gladly accept internet manufacturer’s coupons for product; however no “free” product internet coupons are accepted.

You may find that this is a case of YMMV (your mileage may vary), which I have found before and is why I decided to ask this morning. So, if you find you can use it at your store, that's great. However, it is stated in the coupon policy so don't count on using it at HT.

Neat Idea ~ Resurrection Cookies

I usually share some favorite blog posts on Friday but I found this one this morning as I was looking through the links this week from Jen's Tasty Tuesday (I didn't participate this week thanks to the yucky sickness in the house...but I'll be back to it next week).

Anyway, I found a link to Kara's post about Resurrection Cookies and was intrigued. I had never seen this idea before and thought it was neat.
Then I scrolled down the list of other recipes from Tasty Tuesday and found another entry for Easter Story Cookies.

I hope you all enjoy this idea. Do you do this with your family already? Let me know if you do or if you try it this Easter for a new tradition!

MIR for No Yolks Noodles ~ HT MoneyMaker

I had some technical issues yesterday so I could not post the MIR (manufacturer instant rebate) form for No Yolks Noodles.

So here it is...

No Yolks.pdf

Print this form, fill it out and mail it with your original cash register receipt and UPC from package for a rebate up to $2.50. You must purchase No Yolks between 2/21/10 and 5/31/10 and have your envelope postmarked by 6/30/10.

You can get these CHEAP at Harris Teeter this week and this will be a moneymaker for you!

No Yolks $2.29
-.75/1 No Yolks Noodles SS 2/21 (makes it 4¢)

Tropicana Juicy Rewards

Go here to register or to log in to Tropicana Juicy Rewards. You'll get one point for signing up. Then you can type in the word "coupon" in the search box for rewards (I did not enter a zip code). You will then be able to print a coupon for Buy 1 Get 1 Free Tropicana 64 ounce size (value up to $4.99). It says one print only but I was able to hit the back button and print it twice (sshh!). The coupon expires 4/7/10.

**This is a Deal of the Day...so if you want to print it...hurry before the offer is pulled!!

Harris Teeter has a good deal on Tropicana OJ this week...$1.79 ea, limit 2. HT is funny about internet-printed coupons for free items. They may not accept this coupon so you may need to use it at another store.

Stay Tuned...

My house has been hit hard with a yucky stomach virus...last Friday evening through today. I am feeling better this morning and am getting to work on my list for Harris Teeter triples and pulling coupons. I will post the list this afternoon.

I hope some of you in my local area were able to take advantage of Lowes Foods offering triple coupons for a few days. What a nice surprise!

We are very fortunate to live in an area where the grocery stores are really competing hard to earn our business. I've spoken with so many people in other areas of the country where they do not get to experience their grocery stores offering promos like double coupons everyday or occasional Super Doubles or Triples. Be thankful and be sure to let your stores know how much you appreciate it.

Stay tuned for my deals list for triples...

Some Of My Favorites...

This week has gone by fast (for me). I am anxious for the weekend...my little boy starts t-ball for the first time this evening and the start of spring will be marked by sunshine and temps in the 70s!

Here are some of my favorites from around the blogs this week...Hope you enjoy!

Amy at The Finer Things writes about Somebody Wants What You Have...such a great reminder to be thankful for what you have.

Check out these Eye Catching Ice Cream Cone Cupcakes that June posted...too cute!

I love the idea posted on Blue Cricket Design to keep my kids' special school papers organized. (I can't remember how I came across this post as I was blog-hopping...sorry I can't credit the one that helped me find this little gem)

Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend!

UPDATE on the KMart Coupon

I am getting emails from other bargain bloggers that KMart is saying the $10 off $20 coupons for KMart are fraudulent. I was afraid of this happening and had been a little hesitant on posting it earlier.

So...I have deleted the previous post that included the link for this coupon.

Sorry to have passed along info that was not good.

I found the following info in an email from Charlotte On The Cheap...

Try out Great Wolf Lodge waterpark for just $5! Help them break world waterslide-athon record

Coupon Karma

I finished addressing a few envelopes of coupons to pass along to some people, took them out to the mailbox, saw something in my newspaper box, pulled it out...
The Coupon Fairy had paid me a visit!

Tucked inside my newspaper box was an envelope full of coupons to go through, pull what I want to use, and pass along to the next person.

Coupon Fairy...you rock!

Honey Bun Cake

I first tasted this Honey Bun cake at a 4th of July cookout several years ago. I eagerly asked for the recipe and then filed it away and forgot all about it...until yesterday! I was excited to find it tucked away in my recipe box and knew I must give it a try.

Honey Bun Cake

1 yellow cake mix (with pudding included...I used Pillsbury)
8oz sour cream
4 eggs
2/3 cup oil
1/2 cup sugar

*Combine these 5 ingredients and beat for 2 minutes. Pour 1/2 of batter into a lightly greased and floured 9x13 pan.

1/2 cup brown sugar
2 tsp cinnamon

*Combine brown sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle half of sugar mixture over batter. Top with remaining batter. Sprinkle remaining sugar mixture on top. Swirl with a knife.

*Bake at 350 for 35 minutes

4 tablespoons milk
1 cup powdered sugar

*Mix the milk and powdered sugar together for a glaze. Add glaze to the cake as soon as it is removed from the oven.

What a yummy after-school treat on this rainy day.

This cake is a definite hit at our house. So melt-in-your-mouth moist and cinnamony-good! I'll be making this again SOON!

Let me know if you try this one...
**I am linking up with Tasty Tuesday and Temp My Tummy Tuesday!~ be sure to check out all the other yummy recipes linked up this week!

Baby Steps Toward a New Bedroom

I have been wanting to fix up my bedroom for some time now but haven't known what I want to do, haven't wanted to spend much etc. At the beginning of this year I decided it was time...this is the year I will FINALLY take care of the master bedroom and bathroom in my home. Now, since I've made that decision...where do I start?!?

It is not unusual for me to see things or find pictures of things I like or that I would like to try to do. It is, however, unusual for me to actually DO these things! So...this is where the baby steps come in. Little by little I will get there on this project...

First, I need to paint the walls...still working on that baby step of selecting a color.

Next I want some new bedroom furnishings. I know that I don't want to walk into a furniture store and pick out a set and be all "matchy-matchy". I want something a little different and I want to be frugal about it.

I was excited to stumble across a blog post not long ago with a photo that has become the inspiration for my new bed. I just love what The Little Green Bean did with this door for a headboard! Surely I can do that too, right? (check out her site to see more pictures of it)
So I was off in search of a door since I wasn't lucky enough to just happen to have one in my garage. I found one at a local Habitat For Humanity thrift store for $15. It doesn't look like much now but after some paint and a little distressing I think it will be a great start to a new room for my hubby and me!
Well, now that I've bought this door I guess I really do have to move forward on this project! Stay tuned to see more as my baby steps continue...
I am sharing this at Amanda's Show Me The Progress Party...Check out all the other projects people are working on in their homes!

Phil & Beth's Mac & Cheese

Six+ years ago when I was just home from the hospital after having my son, some friends brought us dinner that included this yummy mac & cheese. I knew I had to have the recipe and I've been enjoying it ever since! Hope you do too...

Phil & Beth's Mac & Cheese
2 cups pasta (I use either elbow macaroni or mini penne)
2 cups milk
2 tbls butter
2 cups shredded cheese (I usually use sharp cheddar but a mexican blend is SO yummy for this!)
2 tbls flour
(additional cheese to sprinkle on top before baking)

Cook and drain the noodles.

Heat the milk and butter together in the microwave for 2 minutes...this will warm the milk and soften the butter.

In a blender pour in the cheese, milk/butter combination, and flour. Blend to make the cheese sauce.
Pour sauce over noodles (Yes, it will look like soup!).

Add some additional cheese on top and bake at 350 for 20-30 minutes.
Enjoy the cheesy goodness!!!!

Produce Co-Op Pick Up Last Week

In my efforts to get things done last week, I neglected to take a picture of my produce basket from the produce co-op. So...let me just let you know that it was another good one that included the following (can't remember quantities now)...

lettuce
broccoli
asparagus
red peppers
potatoes
sweet potatoes
tomatoes
bananas
pears
red apples
kiwi
oranges

YUM!! I am really enjoying having the variety of fresh produce on hand...and at a savings over the grocery store prices.

Go here to see my previous post about this co-op. And go here to visit the website for Your Neighborhood Produce to learn more and order a basket for the next pick up.

By the way, for those of you in my immediate area that will pick up at the Indian Trail location, payment will be due THIS Sunday (3/14) for the next pick up, which is Thursday, 3/18. For all others located in and around Charlotte, please refer to the other pick up locations for payment and pick up info.

Menu Planner Printable

While I was checking out the latest over at $5 Dinners I saw this nifty little printable that Erin, the $5 Dinner Mom, posted. It is a menu planner printable to help you plan your weekly menu and keep you organized.

Yes, of course, you can just jot your plans on a plain 'ole piece of paper but isn't it more fun to have something cute that is laid out so nice for you?!

Hope you find this helpful...

House Party...Again!

I've mentioned House Party before in a previous post...have you signed up to be a host or have you attended a party yet?

It's fun, easy and you get some neat goodies too!

I've been chosen once again to host an upcoming house party...stay tuned for a giveaway coming soon!

In the meantime, check out House Party, see what kinds of parties are coming up and sign up!

Making Some Money with Surveys

Do you participate with any online survey companies? Have you ever wondered if they are worth it?

I have been a member of MySurvey for a little while now and have recently joined Pinecone Research. So far I am happy with both companies. Of course I am not making big money by taking these surveys but every little bit helps! Each company offers something different...some offer cash, gift cards, prizes, entries into sweepstakes drawings, etc. I like the ones that pay out in cash or gift cards.

MySurvey is very user friendly. I find that some weeks I have several survey opportunities and others I have one or two. You will earn points for the "screener" survey to see if you qualify for the main survey and then even more points if you qualify to go on to the main survey. Once you reach 1,000 points you will get paid with a $10 check. You may also have the opportunity to try our product in your home and provide additional feedback. I just received a box last week for a product (it is kept confidential) so I am getting paid, so to speak, with this product that I get to use in my home.

Pinecone Research is a new one for me but I have recently completed my first survey for them and am waiting for both a $3 check for completing the survey, as well as product to try in my home and provide feedback (again, it is confidential). Go here to see my previous post about Pinecone Research and how to sign up...

There are other survey companies out there...these are the ones I have some experience with so far. I have heard that Opinion Outpost is also a good, reputable one but I have not signed up with them yet.

KouponKaren has a good listing of survey sites...
